Happy New Year!

Sometimes you can just see things more clearly than others.....
Yesterday morning I had the good fortune to be on a mini vacation (sometimes 24 hours is all that you need) at the South Seas Resort on Captiva Island. Definite place on my favorites lists.
I woke just before dawn and wandered out of my room to find a cup of coffee. Nothing was open and no one else seemed awake. I wondered around the empty parking lots and ended up on the path out to the fishing peer. It juts out into Pine Island Sound. The water was like glass and the morning's first dawn stretched out in front of me. The air was warm and moist. There are no railing on the outer dock, and I needed to be brave to step out onto the furthest end where there was a chair to sit and to watch sunrise. The deep reddish peach sun emerged slowly through the layers of clouds casting brilliant colors across the clouds that appeared to have positioned themselves perfectly for the morning display. As the sun reached slowly over the crest of the earth, pinks turned into bright yellow that reflected merrily across the water. It almost felt like a laser beam right to me. A sleepy dolphin glided through the green water looking for breakfast in the channel as the tide rushed in. I was so aware of the magic that lives out in the waters of Pine Island Sound. My spirit was filled with new life and hope for the coming year. I love morning, I made a promise to myself to get out each morning at dawn and make my way to sunrise in Matlacha where I live. How could I be missing all of these opportunities day after day? So, this morning, with my best intentions I headed out for morning's first light today. The air was thick with fog, and when I got out onto the peer at Porpoise Point you could barley make out a channel marker. I stop in the mist looking waiting to watch the sun come up in the thick grey cloud. But is this not life? You know the sun is coming up. The seven pelicans still glide above. The egrets are waiting. A manatee snuffs by on his way to spend the day bathing in the warmer waters of the North West Cape Spreader. Faith. Somehow, it is all still happening out there. You know it, you believe it, but you just can't see it. Here's to the New Year! Full of hope and joy and beauty. Then we will see "as through a glass darkly" all the wonders that 2013 offers us. I am just so fortunate to be living it here in beautiful Matlacha!
